At Vision Acupuncture, we offer a specialized program to treat Macular Degeneration, Retinitis Pigmentosa, Glaucoma and other eye diseases and vision conditions. Our treatment combines MicroAcupuncture, Nutrition, and LED and Laser Therapy. Our team is lead by Gunnar Hansen, a medical doctor from Germany and a Doctor of Acupuncture in Alberta. For the last 20 years he has specialized in treating people with degenerative vision loss. Over the years we have helped patients from all over the world achieve significant improvement in their eyesight and slow the progression of their otherwise degenerative condition.
We are also a general and family practice and see patients with a wide spectrum of health concerns, including pain, women’s health, depression and anxiety and addiction disorders. Dr. Hansen offers IFS based health coaching online and in person.

Vision Loss Treatment Program
At Vision Acupuncture we combine Microsystem Acupuncture in conjunction with other natural therapies to treat vision loss and eye disease. We have found many degenerative eye conditions to be lifestyle responsive diseases and were able to change their course significantly with Acupuncture and Natural Medicine. Our specialized Acupuncture protocol has helped over 85% of our patients to improve their vision and to stop or slow the progression of their condition. After undergoing our initial 20 session treatment protocol the vast majority of patients gain visual acuity on the near and far distance chart and improve their ability to do detailed tasks, recognize facial expression, see color clearer and read more easily for longer time. For sustained success we instruct on correct nutritional supplementation and recommend individual lifestyle changes as well as shorter refresher treatments every 4 – 6 months.

I am 84 years old. I was diagnosed with Macular Degeneration about 3 ½ years ago. It turned into the wet macular form 2 years ago. My central vision was getting blurry and zig-zagy and I was getting monthly injections into the eye. Since I started treatments with Dr. Hansen my vision improved significantly and my injections have been spaced out to 4 months. I was diagnosed with diabetic retinopathy in 2015, and research led me to find Dr. Hansen and Vision Acupuncture. A 7-day intensive treatment using Acupuncture and light therapy has resulted in an improvement in my vision. I see sharper images and have improved 3 lines on the eye chart! My first appointment at your business seems clouded it was so long ago. One thing led to another and I presently rest comfortably indoors while cold and snow surround me. I do not have double vision thanks to referral to a new optometrist. My weight is down as is blood pressure. I have changed my diet and eating patterns. I practice Qi Gong regularly sometimes preceded with time on a rebounder. Importantly, my wet macular degeneration did not progress between May 2014 and December 2019 (stayed the same). I have regular appointments with an Ophthalmologist but so far I did not need any injections to the eye. This is a note to say thanks to the three of you for your contributions to my eye and other health aspects. Every day is new so this is not to say I will not need “booster shots” to keep on track or to deal with issues as they arise.

I was diagnosed with Glaucoma and was legally blind before getting the intensive acupuncture treatments with Dr. Hansen. Time was not on my side because of the severity of the disease and my age (70 years old). Along with the treatments, I was advised to do exercises and change my diet. I was shocked at the results. With the combined care I received, my cluster headaches stopped, I am able to use a lower prescription to read and the Opthamologist told me I am able to drive again! I am happy with the results. I was diagnosed with AMD (age-related macular degeneration) about 10 years ago, and I was very fortunate to hear about Dr Hanson's amazing 10-day (20-session) intensive acupuncture protocol, which I received 9 years ago, with incredible results. Not only did my vision improve noticeably, but the protocol actually prevented any degeneration in my eyes, for 9 years. During that time, I no longer needed bifocals, and I can still read clearly, without glasses. In addition, I still have better than 20:20 vision, mid-range and long-distance, with corrective lenses, which are still a weaker prescription than before my initial acupuncture treatments. However, at my last annual eye exam, my doctor noticed some degeneration in my left eye, so I decided to come back for another 10 sessions, which I just completed today. I was a bit worried about being able to lie on the table, however, and I almost postponed my treatment, as I dislocated my shoulder 2 1/2 months ago, and although I was starting to regain some vrange of motion, in the first month, I slipped a few times and retriggered my injury, about 6 weeks ago. So, I was back to experiencing so much pain, it was difficult to continue with physio and my range of motion declined significantly. After discussing my injury with Dr Hansen, he offered to include additional acupuncture for my shoulder, along with the intensive acupuncture and light treatments for my eyes. The Good News is that my vision is now very clear again, without the blurring and waviness that had become noticeable, in my left eye. In addition, after my last treatment today, I was able to go to the pool and do 2 hours of physio, in the water, combined with heat therapy in the stream room, and I'm very happy that I'm back to the same range of motion I had, a month ago. I understand that I still have a ways to go to recover from my shoulder injury, as Dr Hanson's explained that it has morphed into a "Frozen shoulder", but I am excited to see the progress I am making with physio, again.
