Craniosacral Therapy

Craniosacral Therapy is a light-touch manual therapy that addresses restrictions in the craniosacral system – the membranes and fluid that surround and protect the brain and spinal cord.  This vital system extends from the bones of the skull, face and mouth, which make up the cranium, down to the sacrum, or tailbone area.  The craniosacral system directly impacts the central nervous system. and its easy to see how an imbalance there could cause any number of sensory, motor or neurological disabilities. Craniosacral Therapy helps correct those restrictions so the body can release the resultant stress in the system – naturally.

Craniosacral Therapy and the Visual System

Because of the interconnections and inter-dependency of the craniosacral system and visual systems, disturbances affecting the visual system are frequently implicated in craniosacral system dysfunctions and vice versa. Therefore craniosacral therapy can potentially support optimization of visual function and help in the treatment of both short and long-term visual trauma.

“Craniosacral therapy helps people regain the fluid nature in their eyes. In fact, I have measured the eye prescription of patients, given them a craniosacral session, and re-measured their eye prescription and their initial prescription is completely gone. When the compressions are removed and the fluid returns to its resonant state, our eyes function in a normal, flexible way.”

A Craniosacral Session

Clients wear loose comfortable clothing. Using a light touch, a practitioner will monitor the rhythm of the craniosacral system. Any restrictions and imbalances are noticed and the underlying forces of health in the body are connected to. This facilitates a process of natural reorganisation. A practitioner may then use delicate manual techniques to release those problem areas or facilitate a natural unwinding of any restrictions by ‘listening’, through sensitive touch, and following the body’s natural tendency to unfold into health. Craniosacral therapy takes a whole person approach to healing and the inter-connectedness of mind, body and spirit are deeply acknowledged.

Katharine Hansen is an experienced Massage and Cranio-sacral therapist, with many years working with a broad range of ages and conditions applying this gentle effective technique.  Sessions will leave you relaxed and refreshed.
